General Practice Queensland

Together we can build a better health system

GP Super Clinics

During the 2007 Federal election campaign, the Australian Labor Party announced a commitment to the role out of a GP Super Clinics initiative, as part of the broader National Health and Hospitals Reform Plan. This investment by the ALP aims to provide infrastructure funding to ensure greater access to general practitioners, nurses, specialists and allied health professionals, such as physiotherapists, podiatrists, psychologists and dietitians, in one location.

A number of sites were identified across Australia as locations for these GP Super Clinics and nine sites were announced for Queensland.

General Practice Queensland has facilitated two face to face meetings since January, 2008 with those Divisions earmarked for a Super Clinic and has engaged with both AGPN and Queensland Health with regards to the roll out of the initiative. Currently, the Queensland Divisions of General Practice are working locally to explore the ways in which to respond to the initiative.
