Information Management

Overview

The General Practice Queensland Information Management (IM) program serves to lead and promote an understanding of IM, how it underpins the business of General Practice and can provide business benefits. Health information management infrastructure development initiatives and services are developed in collaboration with Queensland’s Divisions Network, the Australian General Practice Network, Queensland Health and other stakeholders.

Objectives

Broadband for Health

The Broadband for Health incentive program, which has been operating for the past three and a half years, ceased to operate on December 31, 2007.   The incentive payment for broadband will no longer be paid to Practices.  If you have an issue with an existing Broadband for Health claim please call Medicare on 1800 818 111 or David Millichap at General Practice Queensland on 07 3105 8300.

Now that the program is over, it would be timely for Practices to re-assess their broadband plan.  Some broadband plans that have been around for some time may be over-priced, under-powered and therefore poor value for money.

To assist those Practices who are making a decision about their broadband connection, the National eHealth Support Program has produced a document called “Broadband Internet Connectivity for General Practice: Recommended Minimum Requirements”. This document has been developed to assist General Practitioners and Practice Managers choose the most suitable broadband Internet service for their Practice. It is not meant to replace professional advice however it is a useful guide as it explains many concepts associated with broadband connectivity.

The document is available in PDF and Word.

IMMF

1. What is the IMMF?

IMMF is the Information Management Maturity Framework. The framework is a management tool for internal use within Divisions to help develop information management (IM) plans for continuous improvement in capacity, linked to Divisional program service delivery priorities and business opportunities. This framework has been developed specifically for use by Divisions of General Practice in Australia.

2. What is the IMMF checklist?

The checklist is the first of four stages of the framework.

  • Step 1 - Self assessment using the IM maturity checklist.
  • Step 2 - Gap analysis to identify and prioritise improvements.
  • Step 3 - Application of a toolkit to identify action tasks for IM maturity improvement.
  • Step 4 - Benefits realisation in IM maturity and business outcomes.

iHealth Care

iHealth Care is the new approach to health communication in Queensland.

iHealth Care’s aim is to improve communication between GPs, specialists, allied health professionals, pharmacists, hospitals and aged care facilities. There are two initial services - the iHealth Care Directory, which lists contact details for health providers in Queensland, and a free secure messaging service provided by Medical-Objects.

Together, these two iHealth Care services are connecting Queensland for better patient care.
