Cervical Screening

This initiative is designed to assist general practices to increase rates of participation in the National Cervical Screening Program to improve early detection of cervical abnormalities.

The program composes of three parts:
  • Sign On Component
  • Service Incentive Payment
  • Outcomes Component
Sign On Component -PIP practices that register will receive $0-25 per SWPE or around $250 per GP.

Service Incentive Component - GPs will receive an incentive payment for each woman who is screened and is aged between 20 and 69 years and who had not had a cervical smear within the past four years. Payment will compose of $35 for each of these high-risk patient screened.

Doctors should use the cervical smear specific item number. This informs HIC that a screen for a high risk patient has been completed and will trigger payment.

Outcomes Component - Payment will depend on a specified proportion of women aged 20 to 69 being screened in the past 27 months. Payment will be $3 per female WPE aged 20 to 69.
